Hebrews 10:24
Calvary The Brook - Grand Terrace California
(6/15/11) Recently, Director Davies received an email
from someone indicating that they were considering
starting a puppet ministry at their church. They asked
for advice
on what
they
needed to
do and
how best
to begin.
While
composing
his reply,
Director
though it might be that there are more of you out
there thinking about what it would entail to start your
own puppet ministry.
So we will share with you his response in hopes that
this gives you some general direction for a place to
start.
Additionally, we are going to be adding a section
soon to the website which will include a much more
specific and guided approach for beginning this
rewarding ministry for children.
Here is an excerpt from the email which Director
Davies wrote...
“Dear *****,
I am so glad to hear that you have a heart for God
and His children. A puppet ministry is a good way to
share the truths of God with His children in a way
that is entertaining and understandable.
Every situation is different, so I can not give you
any hard and fast rules about starting a puppet
ministry but I do have a few pointers to head you in
the right direction.
1.
Contact your pastor and or children's
ministry leader and share with them your desire to
start a puppet ministry. I think you will find that they
are happy to assist you.
2.
Start small.
a.
Make sure that you have a couple of
puppets (can be purchased online) and a
small stage.
i.
I built my one-man stage with
pvc pipes and had a seamstress
friend of mine sew the cover for it.
b.
If you are not good at writing scripts,
there are a lot of wonderful resources
available online. I will be adding some links
to our website soon. And I have made
available nearly all of the scripts I have
written free of charge on our website.
c.
Don't overreach. Build on your
successes and the successes of others.
d.
Read and find as many puppet
resources as possible. This will help your
ministry start off on the right foot.
3.
Get help!
a.
A ministry is a group project and
believe me, you will need help.
4.
Don't get discouraged.
a.
All ministries are tough to start. I
have endured many frustrations in the last
six years of this ministry - But it is worth it.
5.
Pray!!!!
a.
Without the leading of God and His
Holy Spirit, we get very little done - there is
much power in prayer.
I will be happy to assist in any way that I can. If
you have specific questions, feel free to email
them to me and I will answer them to the best of
my ability.
Also, you have given me something to consider. I
imagine there are a lot of others who might feel
the same way that you do. Perhaps I will start a
section on our website dedicated to starting and
building a puppet ministry.
Keep us up to date on your progress!
Be blessed in your endeavor. I know the children
will be!”
If You are interested in starting a ministry, It is our
hope that this will give you a place to start. Stop
back by soon or contact us if you have more
specific questions.
